"We have been very happy with eNovator and with the great service and support that we have received from all the Kinematik staff. Now that the system has been handed over completely to us and there are no longer Kinematik staff on site, they are still on the end of a telephone/e-mail, should we ever need them. Our centre uses eNovator primarily to capture research data. Our scientists no longer use paper lab notebooks. The use of eNovator allows us to capture all intellectual property, together with the date it was generated. Being an academic centre, there was considerable change management needed when the system was first proposed. In our case the advantages are many: Easy access to shared material from different sites (including very large files that cannot be e-mailed). This has facilitated better communication between our two major research sites. Capture of all research data, facilitating management of IP. Ability to search for previous experiments/keywords, so there is no re-inventing the wheel, even when students/postdocs leave. Back-up of all files daily Each of the research cores has a shared space and discussion board where scientists can post topics of interest to each other. Easy changing of permission levels, allowing or removing access to certain folders as required. We have links with industrial companies and all have been very impressed by the fact that we have an electronic lab notebook system in place. Management of IP is very important to these companies. The process of installing eNovator forced us to update operating systems and network connections for the various pieces of equipment linked to the system. This has benefited the scientists and their experiments. Again I want to stress that the level of service from Kinematik has been fantastic, and particularly relevant in an academic environment where there was reluctance to change/adopt new systems. Kinematik made the switch to the electronic system as simple as possible.
